About

Dear Art Lover

Thank you for your interest in art, the creative art process and the artistic search that embraces it.

Art allows us to be more human ... it transcends language, borders, gender, race, origin, etc.

Art harmonises and criticizes, raises anger or brings salvage, it questions the world ...

Art is a subjective perception that encourages us for personal research ... into ourselves, our human image and our place in this world ...

Art brings beauty to a global world that is often dark and ugly ...

For me personally that is all what art should be and what I search for through my artistic path and art works ...

Thanks in advance for accompanying me ...

Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of art do you like ?

I am reasonably open minded and I like many kinds of art.

Of course I am very interested in painting - from the classic 'old masters' to more recent modern masters.

But even a modern work can certainly fascinate me ... as long as I can identify with it and that it requires a clear skill.

I still believe in the fact that 'practicing art' should primarily be an expression of 'skill' and envision the artist in his role as a craftsman who controls his metier.

From that 'point of view' you may call me 'classic' or 'outdated', but I see it more as 'the normal course of affairs' in terms of artistry.

Which artists or art are you inspired by ?

I am truly inspired by various old masters like Rembrandt and Caravaggio or the 19th century portrait painters like Zorn,Sargent and Sorolla.

But also current living master painters like Richard Schmid, Jeremy Lipking or Daniel Gerhartz.

What kind of oil painting do you use ?

I use a number of brands according to the type of work I do.

For high end work I only use high-quality, professional paints with guaranteed lightfastness and pure pigments:

For studies I use:

  • Daler Rowney 'Georgian'
What kind of brushes do you use ?

I am primarly using the excellent, hand-made brushes of 'Rosemary & Co' artist brushes.

These brushes really make a difference in paint handling & easyness of techniques.  They are sustainable and their point remains retained. I have been using them for a number of years now and am very happy with them.

What kind of music do you like ?

I have a broad musical taste and I like to listen varied ... sometimes a bit of classical music, a lot of  rock in the past and nowadays mostly 'Electronic Body Music' and electronic music.

Here are some EBM bands I am currently listening toe:

  • VNV Nation
  • [:SITD:]
  • Suicide Commando
  • Covenant
  • Front 242

Currently also on my playlist:

  • London Grammar
  • Krölsch
  • The Enigma TNG

A number of rock classics I always like to put on:

  • The Mission
  • The Editors
  • Fleetwood Mac
  • Metallica
  • dEus
  • NIN
  • The Afghan Whigs
  • The War On Drugs
  • ...

A touch of (modern) classical music never goes wrong:

  • Known composer like Mozart, Beethoven, Bach, etc ...
  • Hans Zimmer movie soundtracks
What (other) hobbies do you have ?

Aquarium

Since my youth I have been fascinated by the underwater world and thus the proud owner of an aquarium with angelfish.

You can find more info about my aquarium here on this site on this dedicated page.

Did you know that I also have an art series that has fish as a subject?

Board Games & War Gaming

Going into a dark, dangerous world with a group of friends to fight evil? Sound fantastic right? I like to play some board games such as Mansions or Madness, Dark Souls, etc.

I also occasionally play army commander for my 'Orcs & Goblins' armies to spread the evil in the world of Kings of War. Or I take charge of 'Ricks' group and try to survive in the world of The Walking Dead.

Miniatures & Scenery

I like to paint miniatures and also design and paint accompanying 'scenery'. These miniatures are often used in board games mentioned above or are used to build entire armies for playing tabletop war games.

I have a separate website where I showcase all these miniatures and scenery ... take a look at miniatures.sedas.be.

Programming

IT is my current main occupation and therefore I program a lot at work.  But I also like to program in my free time.  For example this site uses a lot of custom written code.
